SKIN
(The largest organ of the body)
The Skin has 3 main functions; Protection, Regulation, and Sensation.
The skin interfaces with the environment and is the first line of defense from external factors.
For example, the skin plays a key role in protecting the body against pathogens and excessive water loss. It is home to up to three million micro-organisms per cm2, which feed on its scales and secretions. The primary function of the skin is to act as a barrier. The skin provides protection from: mechanical impacts and pressure, variations in temperature, micro-organisms, radiation and chemicals. The skin regulates several aspects of physiology, including: body temperature via sweat and hair, and changes in peripheral circulation and fluid balance via sweat. It also acts as a reservoir for the synthesis of Vitamin D.
Understanding this fascinating organ’s functions will help us in choosing the right products to feed our skin. You’re shedding skin cells throughout the day, so it’s important to keep your skin glowing and in good condition. An effective routine can help prevent acne, treat wrinkles, and help keep your skin looking its best. As you age, your skin’s cells turn over more slowly, make it look duller and less radiant. Using a quality skin care line can help remove dead skin cells so your body will replace them with newer, more youthful cells. Preventing skin problems is easier and less costly than trying to fix them in the future.
When your skin looks better, you’ll feel better about yourself and have more self-confidence.
A good skin care routine is only as good as the products you use.
Natural Skin Care
The classic definition of natural skin care is based on using botanically sourced ingredients currently existing in or formed by nature, without the use of synthetic chemicals, and manufactured in such a way to preserve the integrity of the ingredients.
Some examples of natural skin care ingredients include Jojoba, Sweet Almond oil, Re Raspberry Seed oil, Shea Butter, Beeswax, Tea Tree Oil Etc. Our two favourite ingredients are Sea Buckthorn Berry Oil and Black Seed oil. Read up on it under our links.
Natural skin care goes beyond the application of products on one’s skin. It also pertains to a holistic philosophy surrounding the holistic care of one’s body. This includes the belief that what is ingested will affect all aspects of health, including the health of skin.
Why not chemical based products?
Many chemicals may mimic or interfere with the body’s hormones, known as the endocrine system. Called endocrine disruptors, these chemicals are linked with developmental, reproductive, brain, immune, and other problems.
Endocrine disruptors are found in many everyday products, including some plastic bottles and containers, liners of metal food cans, detergents, flame retardants, food, toys, cosmetics, and pesticides.
